Domino frames: the key to unique display configurations

It goes without saying that a flexible projection screen surface must be attached to a support system, whether it be a frame, a structure or rolled on a tube for manual or motorized deployment. The support system is an important design aspect, especially for large venues that often include visual elements as an integral part of the artistic project. Unique presentations such as these generally require tailored solutions. A closer look at Strong/MDI’s Domino frame demonstrates the versatility and convenience of its customization features.

Edging options

Versatility is a key benefit to the Domino design. The system can be flat or curved and supported by wall brackets, suspension brackets or integrated to scaffold structures that include speaker platforms and ladders. As a complete frame system the wraparound lacing is hidden from viewers without requiring any masking. You can achieve an infinity edge finish, or floating image, without any of the structure visible. There is also a masked option with black PVC welded borders, integrated as part of the screen material, to obtain a sleek, modern framed presentation. In permanent install applications these completely framed options offer a superior look and cleaner finish to traditional lace and grommet designs.

When the application is short term, as in staged events, Domino wrap sections can be used as the top support and a weighted bar or pipe is employed to stretch the screen for viewing. In many applications, this highly portable design suits perfectly. When venues have high movement of air, side pockets can be included in the material’s edge finishing for lacing to truss for additional screen stability.

Screen choice and size

The frame can be used with any of the screen surfaces offered by Strong/MDI for both front and rear projection The Domino has the solidity to be built into any length and width. With proper bracing there isn't a size limitation so you can go as small or as big as you’d like. Some installations require additional bracing, and in those situations, rear projection screens are limited to a width of 32 feet, which is substantially larger than most standard rear projection displays. Attachment options

There are also many attachment options available. Custom brackets allow you to mount it on walls or it can be attached to an MDI structure with leg supports for ground-level presentations. You can also choose to suspend it from the ceiling to make it the focal point of your room. Custom rigging hardware and personalized instructions with detailed images are provided with each system.

Convenience and affordability

Aside from unmatchable customization options, the Domino Screen stands apart from other projection systems for a multitude of reasons including convenience and adaptability. It offers easy installation and removal, regardless of location and mount-choice of your project. The system is also affordable, it has the durability to be used for permanent installs, but pricing makes it a great solution for short-term events or exhibits.
